Chinese Politburo Committee member and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with United States Secretary of State Rubio in Manila on the 22nd.
Wang Yi stated that this year is a "major year" for Sino-US relations. The two heads of state successfully held a historic meeting in Beijing, establishing a constructive strategic stability relationship between China and the US, and setting out the direction for joint efforts by both sides. This represents significant progress made by the two major powers in exploring peaceful coexistence, which is in line with the fundamental interests of the people of both countries and meets the expectations of the international community. Our responsibility now is to follow the path set by the heads of state, overcome obstacles, and ensure that the consensus reached by the leaders becomes a shared understanding and action across the entire government and various fields. This will promote world peace and stability through strategic stability between China and the US, and provide important impetus for international cooperation through constructive interactions between the two countries. Wang Yi also clarified China's solemn position regarding a series of negative actions taken by the US recently, demanding that the US respect China's core interests, adhere to the one-China principle, effectively manage conflicts and differences, and address China's legitimate concerns, thereby turning the year of opportunity for Sino-US relations into reality.
Both parties also exchanged views on international and regional hot issues.
Both parties believe that this meeting was practical, positive, and constructive. They agreed to jointly implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, to leverage political and diplomatic channels, to prepare well for the next stage of high-level exchanges, and to make substantial progress towards building a constructive strategic stability between China and the United States.
