According to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on August 26, 2026, Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with U.S. Ambassador to China James E. Peterson in Beijing.
Wang Yi said that under the leadership of the two heads of state, both sides are working to build constructive strategic relations between China and the United States. It has been proven that improving Sino-US relations, living in peace based on mutual respect, and achieving win-win cooperation are in line with the fundamental interests of the two peoples and meet the common expectations of the international community. At the same time, Sino-US relations still face various risks and challenges. Both sides should implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, focus on positive agendas, properly manage differences, remove obstacles from high-level exchanges between the two countries, and promote Sino-US relations to develop in a stable, healthy, and sustainable direction.
Pang Dewei said that the two heads of state provide important strategic guidance for US-China relations. President Trump’s visit to China in May was very successful. Both sides are willing to strengthen communication, promote cooperation, and prepare for the next phase of important high-level interactions. They aim to build a constructive and stable strategic relationship between the US and China based on respect and equality.
Pang Dewei also expressed his condolences on behalf of the US on the casualties caused by the mudslide disaster in Jilong, Tibet.
