China Condemns US Slander on Cuba

July 21, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian presided over a regular press conference.

A journalist asked that recently, the United States Department of State released a report stating that Cuba is essentially an intelligence agency with anti-American as its core objective. It is also described as the ideological capital of radical left-wing groups worldwide. China has long utilized Cuba's geographical advantages to conduct intelligence activities against the United States. What is China's comment on this?

Lin Jian stated that China and Cuba have a good relationship, and it is unacceptable to spread rumors or slander. He advised the US side not to repeatedly smear others, as it would only lead to more problems. The Chinese side will firmly support Cuba and defend national sovereignty against external interference.

At the beginning of this year, after launching large-scale military strikes against Venezuela, the United States increased its pressure on Cuba further, repeatedly emphasizing the claim that "Cuba poses a threat to the United States."

According to a report by the American CBS network on July 15th, as the conflict between the United States and Iran escalates, senior members of the U.S. Department of Defense are quietly studying a range of military options against Cuba. These options include an air raid operation carried out by the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division, involving thousands of soldiers.

Cuba's Foreign Minister Rodríguez refuted in May that the statement by the US State Department that Cuba posed a threat to the United States was 'absurd'. Cuba, as a relatively small developing country, has long suffered from harsh economic embargoes imposed by the United States. Yet it is accused of posing a threat to the world's largest military, technological, and economic power.

Rodriguez said that Cuba is a country that loves peace, does not attack other countries, and does not allow its territory to be used against others. It also has a good record in opposing terrorism, international organized crime, and violence. The U.S. government and its security and defense agencies are well aware of this. Using such weak and deceptive excuses is simply not feasible.
