On the early morning of July 20 local time, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran issued a statement, expressing gratitude to the Jordanian people and military for their "sincere cooperation and accurate information". It claimed that this intelligence helped the Iranian side to accurately strike and destroy 20 US military facilities in the Azrak region, resulting in the death of dozens of US military personnel.
Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Statement
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced in the 21st round of attacks during Operation Nasr-2 that its aerospace forces, based on information provided by Jordan, targeted targets in the Azrak area. They destroyed 20 warehouses and related facilities used to house U.S. troops, resulting in the death of “dozens of U.S. military personnel.” The Iranian side named this operation “Lukaya,” claiming it was a tribute to the Iranian children who died in recent conflicts.
The announcement also stated that with the assistance of Jordanian personnel, the Revolutionary Guard used ballistic missiles to strike the US C-17 large transport aircraft and the P-8 “Command and Control” aircraft at the Akaba airport.
The Muwaqaf Saleti Air Base in the Azrak region is home to US military personnel and fighter jets. The US Central Command previously confirmed that at least two Iranian ballistic missiles struck the base on July 17, resulting in the death of two US military personnel, one person going missing, and another soldier sustaining minor injuries. The US military subsequently stated that remains of unidentified individuals were found at the site of the attack, and further identification procedures are still underway.
On July 18th, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard also issued a statement stating that they used missiles and drones to attack the Azrak base, destroying at least two US fighter jets and three other military aircraft, while causing damage to several other aircraft.
