On July 15, 2026, local time, the police in Chiba Prefecture, Japan, announced the arrest of a 51-year-old midwife. The police accused her of mixing feces into the intravenous tubes of hospitalized patients at a hospital, resulting in the death of those patients.
The police reported that the suspect is Miyuki Furukawa, who lives in Sakata, Chiba Prefecture. It was discovered that around 3:55 a.m. on January 30th, she mixed feces into the intravenous line of a 75-year-old male patient at a hospital in Chiba Prefecture. The patient's condition deteriorated rapidly and he died the next day. Japanese media reported that the cause of death was multiple organ failure due to sepsis.

Police investigations show that there was a limited number of night shift workers in this district during the incident. That night, including the suspect, only two medical staff were responsible for the duty shift.
Japanese media reported that surveillance cameras captured images of the suspect entering and leaving the deceased’s hospital room within one minute of the alleged crime time.
The suspect resigned from the hospital in February this year. The police identified the suspect through clues such as surveillance footage, but the suspect denied the police’s charges after being apprehended.
Currently, the police are still investigating the motive behind the suspect’s actions, as well as whether there was any dispute between her and the patient.
