According to the US newspaper The New York Post, a knife attack occurred in Times Square on the afternoon of August 31. A woman stabbed two people, resulting in one death. She then confronted the police with a double knife and was eventually killed by police shootings.
The incident occurred at around 4:30 p.m. on that day, near the intersection of Times Square West 41st Street and Seventh Avenue in New York. According to sources from law enforcement agencies, the suspect woman attacked a man and a woman. After both victims fell to the ground, the woman fled from the scene.

The police later found the suspect about a block away from the crime scene, behind a NYPD station. Video footage from the scene showed that the woman held knives in both hands, waving them around and approaching the officers, refusing to put down her weapons.
After repeated warnings proved ineffective, police fired at him, hitting him in the process. The woman died from severe injuries after being rushed to the hospital.
According to reports, sources revealed that the woman had a history of mental illness. The police have not yet disclosed her identity or the motive for the crime, and the case is still under further investigation.
