According to ABC News, on June 1st, local time, U.S. President Trump told the media that he believed he would reach an agreement with Iran within the next week. This agreement would involve extending the current ceasefire and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Seems good, said Trump. There was a small problem today (June 1st, local time), but I got it sorted out quickly.
Trump said that this small issue stems from Irans dissatisfaction with Israels attacks on Lebanon.
So, I talked with Hezbollah. I told them not to shoot. Then I also talked with Israels Prime Minister Netanyahu, telling him not to shoot either. After that, they stopped shooting at each other.
Trump said that a peace agreement with Iran could even be better than military victory.
He said, This isnt easy for them at all. In fact, its not easy from our perspective either. But we are getting what we need.
Regarding when the memorandum of understanding for reopening the Strait of Hormuz will be finalized and signed, Trump said, I believe youre talking about the next week.
Trump said that he hasnt given his consent yet, because I still need to get a few more points.
