Chinese Companies Shift AI Acceleration Budget Towards Domestic Products

According to a report by Bloomberg on July 7th, a latest survey shows that Chinese companies are gradually abandoning the advanced accelerators developed by US artificial intelligence giant NVIDIA in favor of domestic products.

According to a survey released by Bloomberg Intelligence on Tuesday, conducted among 60 senior executives from the software, financial, manufacturing, and retail industries in China, respondents expect to allocate 46% of their AI acceleration budget to domestic products in the next 12 months, compared to the current 30%.

The report states: “China’s efforts to promote the use of domestic AI semiconductors as a substitute for foreign products are making progress.”

According to American media, this data not only reflects that the technological competition between China and the United States is reshaping the landscape of AI infrastructure construction, but also highlights China's ambition to accelerate the replacement of American technologies with domestic ones. Chinese leading AI infrastructure builders such as Tencent, Alibaba, and Huawei, along with their main suppliers, are expected to be the main beneficiaries of this trend. Additionally, a large number of respondents stated that they are currently evaluating AI accelerators produced by Haiguang Information and Cambrian Computing.

The survey also found that although NVIDIA’s products remain popular, its share of the mainland Chinese market is expected to decline.

However, the global shortage of storage chips could hinder the expansion of Chinese AI companies like SMIC. On the other hand, Changxin Storage is expected to benefit from this gap. The report states that the current industry bottleneck has shifted from simply competing in computing power to ensuring a stable supply of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) capable of supporting fast data transmission.
