Cathay Airways Flight Loses Contact Over Romania

According to a report by Hong Kong's 'Xingdao Headline' on July 8, a Cathay Airways flight departing from Hong Kong for London, UK, lost contact with the control tower over Romania on July 4. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization dispatched fighter jets to warn the aircraft.

The Hungarian Defense Minister posted on social media that a Airbus A350 aircraft flying from Hong Kong to London lost contact with the control tower near two o’clock in the afternoon on the 4th when it reached over Romania. This incident triggered a NATO rapid response alert, and after receiving the report, the Hungarian Air Force dispatched fighter jets to issue visual warnings. The involved aircraft then contacted the control tower, and the fighter jets returned to the air force base.

It is understood that the flight involved is Cathay Flight CX257, which had a maximum capacity of 334 passengers. The aircraft arrived at London Heathrow Airport on time that day.

Cathay Pacific Airlines confirmed in a response to 'Star Island Headline' that on July 4th, the CX257 flight from Hong Kong to London experienced a brief communication interruption with the air traffic control department along the way. The relevant authorities carried out interception procedures in accordance with internationally recognized procedures.

CGNTA stated that communication between the aircraft was restored, and the flight continued according to the original plan. The flight operated along the approved route, and there was no impact on the safety of either the aircraft or any of the passengers during this period. The crew immediately reported the incident, and an investigation is still underway.
