Qatar Reverses Shipping Suspension, Restoring Maritime Activities

On July 5 local time, the Qatar Ministry of Transport announced on social media that it would fully resume all types of maritime shipping activities. The announcement took effect from the date of publication. The ministry urged all ship operators and users to comply with current maritime regulations and directives to ensure that all navigation activities are subject to the highest level of safety standards.

Reuters reported that this move revoked another notice issued by Qatar on June 29th. That notice had requested a temporary suspension of sailing ships and fishing vessels until further notice, but commercial shipping activities were not included in the restrictions at that time.

Qatar did not explain the reasons for implementing this measure on June 29. However, one day before Qatar issued this directive, the Qatar Interior Ministry stated that the General Department of Coastal and Border Security found a missing ship on June 28. Two Qatari citizens on the ship were hit by debris from regional military operations, resulting in one death and one injury.

Iranian Deputy Commercial Counselor at the Qatar Embassy, Abbas Abdulhani, stated on the 5th that after a maritime transportation interruption between the ports of Garmeh and Al-Ruways in Iran for about five months, with the coordination by the Iranian Embassy and the Qatari government, Al-Ruways has resumed accepting Iranian goods, and bilateral maritime trade has now been restored.
