Trump Facilitates Phone Calls Between Putin and Zelenskyy Amidst Ukrainian Conflict

On July 4th, local time, as the United States celebrated its 250th anniversary, Russian President Putin and Ukrainian President Zelenskyy spoke with U.S. President Trump respectively.

According to Russian Satellite News Agency, Russian President's Assistant Ushakov reported on May 5 that the conversation between Putin and Trump lasted approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes. During the call, Putin outlined the situation of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and emphasized that Russian troops are launching attacks across the entire front line.

Ushakov said that Trump reiterated in the phone conversation that he would facilitate an immediate cessation of military actions and seek peaceful solutions to the Ukrainian crisis. Trump's envoy Wittkev and son-in-law Kushner will continue to mediate and will visit Moscow at the appropriate time.

He said, “This call was initiated by the US side on the day of the 250th anniversary of the United States’ independence. This alone indicates many things. The two leaders agreed to stay in contact and will have another conversation in the near future.”

According to the Ukrainian National News Agency, Zelenskyy also spoke with Trump on April 4th. Zelenskyy said that on the occasion of America's Independence Day, he congratulated Trump and the entire American people.

He said: “We thank the United States for all its aid given to us—from weapons to political support—we value the help provided by the United States in defending our independence. I thank the American people who care about Ukraine, Europe and the whole world, everyone concerned with the future of freedom.”

Zelenskyy believes that ending the conflict between Russia and Ukraine is possible, and "the determination of the United States is crucial." The two leaders agreed to meet during the upcoming NATO summit and continue to discuss related issues.
