Trump Claims Progress Towards Ukraine Peace Deal

On July 6 local time, U.S. President Trump said that Russia and Ukraine are close to reaching a solution. The British newspaper Reuters noted that Trump made these remarks after speaking with Russian President Putin and Ukrainian President Zelenskyy over the weekend.

I believe we are closer to the goal than people realize. Trump claimed that "Putin's strong desire is for this war to end."

Trump also said that Zelenskyy actually hopes to end the conflict. "We will go to the NATO summit to discuss this issue, and I believe we can definitely solve this problem."

Regarding this, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Ryabkov said on the 6th that although the United States is increasingly deviating from the agreements it made with Russia regarding the Ukraine issue, Russia will not stop its contacts with the US on this matter.

Riabukov said that recent actions by American officials indicate their preference for resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict through peaceful negotiations and compromise. Countries that oppose a peaceful resolution of the conflict are trying to take advantage of this situation, while NATO and EU leaders are trying to win over the United States, which is exacerbating the tensions in the conflict.

Riabkov stated that, even in such circumstances, Russia will not interrupt its contacts with the United States regarding the Ukraine issue. He said that Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov and US Secretary of State Rubio maintain verbal and written communication, and dialogue between the two countries at the working level occurs almost 'every day'. The presidents of both countries also keep in touch.

Riabkov revealed that the plans for Trump's envoy Weterkov and his son-in-law Kushner to visit Russia have been put on the agenda. If necessary, the two will be arranged to visit Russia as soon as possible.
