U.S. Vice President Williams: British Politics Faces Serious Problems

In an interview published by the British newspaper The Sunday Times on July 4, U.S. Vice President Williams said that despite his repeated criticism of the UK, he has a special and deep affection for it. He believes that the frequent changes in the British prime minister indicate that there are "major political problems" and that "structural reforms" are necessary.

British Prime Minister Sturmer announced last month that he would step down as the leader of the Labour Party and will remain as Prime Minister until a successor is elected. The UK will also have its 7th Prime Minister in 10 years.

Wanse said, “In the past few years, there have been six changes in the prime ministers. In my opinion, British politics has reached a serious problem, and people are eager for significant structural changes.”

Currently, Sir Bernard, a member of the UK Parliament and former mayor of Greater Manchester, is the most popular candidate for the next Prime Minister. Vance expressed the hope that Bernard or someone else ‘can bring about this change’.

Wanse said, “Because Britain is such a beautiful country, such a wonderful place. It has the best people in the world, of course, except for the United States.” But this “wonderful” country “has been betrayed by its leadership for a long time,” and “it could have done more than it has done now.” He hopes that “no matter who becomes Prime Minister, they will find a way to get Britain back on track.”

Wanis said that he knows very little about Burnham, but after all, “Britain is one of our closest and most important allies. Therefore, no matter who serves as Prime Minister, we will cooperate with them and do our best to achieve success.”

Wan's wife, Usha, studied at Cambridge University. He visited the UK several times and believed that he felt the most cultural closeness in England.
