According to a report by the Japan Kyodo News on July 3, Liu Xueliang, the president of BYD's Japanese branch, emphasized that the popularization of electric vehicles worldwide is unstoppable. He stated that BYD will break the 'calm surface' of the Japanese automotive market by entering the market for compact cars with unique specifications in Japan.
Due to the chaotic situation in the Middle East and the resulting increase in fuel prices, the demand for electric vehicles is accelerating around the world.
Liu Xueliang said in an interview with Kyodo News that electric vehicles, as a means of transportation, can eliminate concerns about rising gasoline prices. They also provide entertainment value. In case of emergencies, they can serve as batteries, making them a basic household device.

Regarding the reasons for entering the Japanese micro-car market, Liu Xue-liang said that micro-cars account for 40% of the Japanese new car market. In local cities, people will first ask, "Are there any micro-cars?" He stated that although this is a challenge, BYD's philosophy is to "introduce technologies and products that are needed in any country."
Liu Xueliang said that the market for microvehicles is highly competitive, and BYD will demonstrate a difference. He believes that converting gasoline vehicles to electric ones is difficult from a structural perspective. BYD started from scratch, developing from zero. He mentioned that some Chinese engineers who had never lived in Japan traveled throughout Japan to understand the actual needs of daily life.
Regarding the price, Liu Xue-liang only stated that it would be set at a level that is easy for the public to afford.
During the interview, he vowed that BYD will continue to offer a variety of products in the future, and strive to make the concept of an "electric vehicle society" take root in Japan.
