According to a report by American magazine Time magazine on July 4th, Tucker Carlson, a conservative commentator in the United States and former ally of Donald Trump, recently mentioned in an interview his intention to help establish a new political party after a rift occurred between him and President Trump.
Carlson said in an interview published in the American magazine 'Columbia Journalism Review' on the 1st that he 'will help to establish a third party', and emphasized the need to 'efforts sincerely to figure out what is truly beneficial for the country'.
In the interview, he criticized the U.S. government for having “forgotten the ordinary Americans”. He said, “If you earn $60,000 a year, you will be looked down upon. It seems that no one cares about this, and it’s not even a problem.” However, he also stated that he would not run as a candidate for any new political party.
Carlson believes that Democrats and Republicans have become 'unable to distinguish' on key issues. 'This is actually a single-party state disguised as democracy, and this state must be broken.' 'There will definitely be a third party in the future, and I will do everything in my power to promote the realization of this goal.'
Reports indicate that, for a long time, American politics has been dominated by the Democratic and Republican parties. It is nearly impossible for third-party parties to break through the existing system in modern politics. Former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards attempted to promote the ‘Forward Party’ to break through the two-party dominance, but it seems that no significant results have been achieved to this day.
Carlson is not the only former member of the “Make America Great Again” movement who calls for challenging the American political system. Previously, Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk stated that he had formed an organization called the “American Party” due to his breakdown with Trump.
Recently, Marjorie Taylor Green, a former Republican representative from the U.S. Congress, also called for political change. In an interview, she revealed that she is in contact with some individuals to discuss the possibility of forming a third political party.
"Some of us have been engaged in a constant struggle with this body politic. In my view, if we can unite together, we can form a political party that truly prioritizes American interests. Such a party would not fall prey to the traps of the Democrats and Republicans, but instead would be able to bring together the elite members of both parties to advance towards common goals." Green said.
However, she also acknowledges that forming a third party poses real difficulties. “This is not something that can be accomplished within just a few election cycles.”
According to reports, as discussions about a third party intensify, both the Democratic and Republican parties in the United States are also actively seeking to regain voter support. Trump announced this week that the Republican Party will hold a national convention in Dallas in September, in order to mobilize voters during the midterm elections.
Meanwhile, candidates supported by the 'American Democratic Socialists' (DSA) have won multiple elections in New York and Colorado.
