China Represented at Irans Supreme Leader Funeral

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, He Wei, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, represented China at the funeral of Iran's late Supreme Leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, which took place in Tehran on July 3.

According to the Iranian Tasnim News Agency, on the 3rd local time, Iranian Parliament Speaker Karlibaf met with He Wei and said that he welcomed the visit of the Chinese delegation. He also expressed his gratitude for the Chinese representatives attending the funeral and for the political and economic cooperation between Iran and China.

Kalyabov said that he hopes for a further improvement in the strategic relations between the two countries, and pointed out that changes in the regional situation require closer coordination between the two sides.

He emphasized that while carrying out cooperation within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and other regional frameworks, it is also necessary to strengthen relations between parliaments and the National People's Congress. He added that enhancing relations between Iran and China could help alleviate global tensions.

He described China as "a country standing together with Iran during difficult times."

When discussing the Strait of Hormuz shipping issue, Calibrate affirmed that Iran has cleared obstacles to facilitate the passage of Chinese ships through the strait. He reiterated that Iran will not allow the United States to interfere in this strategic waterway.

During the talks, Kalibaf also warned that Israel is attempting to undermine the memorandum of understanding signed between Iran and the United States. He also emphasized that Iran’s deterrence in the region would prevent any war against the country from happening again.

The funeral ceremony for Hamenei was held in Tehran, the capital of Iran, on the 3rd. People from various walks of life in Iran, religious leaders, and officials from several countries attended the ceremony.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bagheer said that approximately 100 countries sent official delegations, public groups, or prominent individuals to attend the ceremony. Among them were at least 8 heads of state (presidents or prime ministers), chairpersons from 12 countries, as well as foreign ministers, minister-level officials, or special envoys from multiple countries.

He also said that official delegations from Eastern European countries, parliamentarians, and civilians also attended the ceremony. However, the Iranian side did not invite European countries that openly supported military operations by Israel and the United States against Iran.

The Iranian side stated that representatives from about 100 countries attended the ceremony.

According to Xinhua news, from July 2nd to 3rd, Iranian President Pezhad and Speaker of Parliament Kalleff met with He Wei.

He Wei stated that China expresses its deep condolences on the unfortunate death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. It also extends sincere sympathies to the Iranian government and people, as well as the relatives of Supreme Leader Khamenei. China hopes that under the leadership of Supreme Leader Majid Tabbak, Iran will quickly regain security, stability, and development. Over the past 55 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Iran, bilateral relations have maintained a stable and healthy development. China’s determination to develop its relations with Iran remains unwavering, and the direction of these relations will not change. China is willing to work alongside the Iranian side to ensure that the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Iran progresses steadily and for a long time.

He Wei stated that China welcomes the signing of the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States. China hopes that both parties will implement the existing achievements, maintain the ceasefire, remain rational and pragmatic, and strengthen the momentum of negotiations. China also hopes that the issue surrounding the Strait of Hormuz will be handled properly, and that regional countries will live in harmony.
