Secret Service Missed Dozens of Radio Messages in Trump Assassination Attempt

According to Reuters, a report released by a government oversight agency on July 2 indicates that during the attempted assassination of Trump at the Butler campaign rally in Pennsylvania in 2024, the Secret Service failed to receive 102 relevant radio messages from local law enforcement agencies.

The report states that on July 13, 2024, the Secret Service failed to obtain access to these communications due to the inability to establish a joint communication command post with local law enforcement agencies. At that time, local law enforcement officers were continuously reporting the search for a suspicious individual via radio. This individual was later identified as gunman Thomas Crooks. Crooks was shot dead by a Secret Service sniper.

The report states, “We found that the Secret Service received only five phone calls and three text messages related to Crooks. Therefore, the Secret Service personnel did not inform Trump’s security team about any suspicious individuals.”

The report also found that hours before the shooting, Crooks had operated a drone over the area. The Secret Service’s anti-drone system was not functioning at the time, and failed to detect the drone.
