According to a report by The Wall Street Journal on the 2nd, Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Perez-Olive said that US pressure has isolated the country and forced foreign investors to withdraw. However, he also warned the Trump administration not to underestimate Cuba’s determination.
Pérez-Oliva said that the Trump administration misjudged Cuba's ability to withstand pressure. "The U.S. government attempts to force us into economic dependence, thereby harming the interests of other partner countries."
Since January this year, the United States has imposed an oil embargo on Cuba, and subsequently sanctions were imposed on the country's state-owned enterprises. In May of this year, U.S. prosecutors also charged Cuban revolutionary leader Raul Castro with murder, accusing him of being involved in the incident where two civilian aircraft were shot down in 1996.
Additionally, the United States has imposed sanctions on nearly 20 Cuban officials and members of the Castro family. Trump claimed that he would carry out a "friendly takeover" of the country, and even threatened to "liberate" Cuba.
