Chinese Response to Reports of Detainment of Japanese Individuals in Dalian Rare Earths Case

July 2nd, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun presided over a regular press conference.

A reporter from the Japan News Agency asked about the incident where Japanese people were detained in Dalian. According to some reports and rumors, during the investigation, many Chinese citizens were also taken measures for suspected violations of regulations regarding rare earth exports. Can the Chinese side confirm this situation?

Guo Jiaqun said: 'Yesterday, we have already responded to the relevant issues. The Chinese side handles cases in accordance with laws and regulations. For specific details of the case, please consult the Chinese competent authorities.'

According to a report by a Japanese television station on July 2, several Chinese individuals were arrested in connection with this case. More than 10 people are under investigation. Chinese authorities believe that two Japanese employees who were previously arrested and had embedded rare earth magnets into products like motors, then exported them to Japan before removing the magnets, had issues with their actions. They also suspect that Chinese individuals were involved in this process.
