US Ambassadors Remarks on Trump-Modi Friendship

According to a report by Today India on June 30th, US Ambassador to India Sergio Guerrero boasted at a public event about the close personal relationships between US and Indian leaders. He said that US President Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have a 'friendship that transcends time zones', with Trump considering Modi as a 'friend with whom he can call at any time'.

At the 2026 US-India Strategic Partnership Forum, Gore shared details of "impromptu diplomacy": Trump suddenly proposed making a call to Modi during an event.

"I was there with President Trump at an event, when he suddenly said he wanted to call Modi Prime Minister. I told him India is only 6 am now, but Trump said, 'Modi's definitely awake; he and I don't sleep'." Gol framed this disruptive dream story as if the two leaders had a "close" personal relationship, allowing for a direct phone call without having to "prepare in advance" like other national leaders do.

Meanwhile, the US side also did not forget to continue sending out invitations. Gore, during an interview at the venue, said that the United States "very much welcomes" Modi's return to the White House, and revealed that US Secretary of State Rubio had sent out an invitation on behalf of Trump.

However, Gore is quite cautious about whether Trump will visit India in the near future. Reports indicate that due to the approaching U.S. midterm elections, this trip is unlikely to happen soon and may have to be postponed until next year.

According to Indian Asian News Agency (IANS) and Reuters reports, Rubio stated on the 26th that the United States and India are advancing negotiations on a bilateral trade agreement. The US plans to arrange for Trump to visit India at the beginning of next year.

Rubio told IANS that he plans to visit India this year to prepare for Trump's visit there. “We are finalizing the arrangements to ensure that Trump can visit India early next year.”
