South Koreas Han Seung-sook Confirmed as Prime Minister

According to Yonhap News, the appointment of nominee Han Seung-sook as the Prime Minister of South Korea was approved at a plenary session of the National Assembly on the 30th.

On that day, the largest opposition party in South Korea, the People Power Party, argued that Han Seung-sook was not qualified to serve as Prime Minister, and therefore abstained from the vote. 167 members of the ruling Democratic Party of Korea, along with the Homeland Reform Party and the Progressive Party, participated in the vote. The resolution was ultimately passed with 166 votes in favor and 1 vote against.

On the 7th of this month, South Korean President Li Jae-myeong nominated Han Seung-sook as the Prime Minister. With the appointment being approved by the parliament, Han Seung-sook became the second Prime Minister of Li Jae-myeong's government and the 50th Prime Minister of South Korea. She also became the second female Prime Minister in South Korean history.

Han Seong-soo was born in Gyeonggi-do in 1967. She graduated from the English Department of Soong Myung Women's University in South Korea. She served as a representative director of NAVER, a leading Korean portal company. After the establishment of the Lee Jae-myung government, she was appointed as Minister of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and Risky Businesses. She directed policy initiatives focused on small and medium-sized enterprises and individual business owners.

According to the Blue House, Han Seung-soo is the 'right person to lead a major transformation in artificial intelligence and achieve collective growth for all citizens'.
