According to a report by the Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK), on the 28th, the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force announced on social media that they have deployed equipment such as the 'Type 12 Shore-to-Ship Missile' to Nanuta Island in the Ogasawara Islands in Tokyo.
This is the first time that the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force has deployed shore-to-ship missile equipment on Nan-Tao Island, the easternmost island. NHK states that this move is "aimed at strengthening the defense system along the Pacific side."
The Japan Ground Self-defense Force stated that this deployment is aimed at preparing for the construction of the Minamidake Shooting Range. The main purpose is to ensure that the related equipment functions properly in that location. However, the missile bodies were not transported to that location this time.
The Land Self-Defense Forces have stated that, given the so-called "current severe security environment," they will continue to focus on improving the training levels of units such as shore-to-ship missile forces, in order to ensure Japan's defense is foolproof. However, these actions are considered likely to exacerbate regional tensions, leading to criticism.
On the 8th of this month, the Japanese Ministry of Defense transported equipment such as the “Type 12 Shore-to-Ship Missile” launcher for the Japan Self-Defense Forces and medium-sized unmanned reconnaissance vehicles from a port in Chiba Prefecture to Minamitoro Island via ferry.
Nantou Island is located 1848 kilometers from Tokyo and is the easternmost island in Japan. There are no permanent residents on this island.
Previously, Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning presided over a regular press conference, stating that in recent years, the Japanese government has continuously increased military spending, relaxed restrictions on the export of lethal weapons, frequently participated in military exercises, advanced the deployment of long-range missiles, developed so-called 'counterattack capabilities' capable of proactive attacks, stockpiled large amounts of sensitive nuclear materials, pushed for changes to the peace constitution, and advocated becoming a 'ready-to-war' nation, continuously breaking international laws and domestic regulations.
Mao Ning said that Japanese militarism once caused great disasters to the world and also brought suffering to the Japanese people. 'New-type militarism' is also a path of no return. 'We urge Japan to learn from history's lessons, abide by its peace commitments, and take practical actions to gain the trust of Asian neighbors and the international community.'
