China Congratulates Venezuela Amid Earthquake Devastation, Calls for Lifting Sanctions

According to CCTV International News, on June 26, the 20th meeting of the 62nd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council was held. Mu Jianfeng, the Chinese Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva, stated in his speech that Venezuela has recently experienced a strong earthquake. China expressed sincere condolences to the Venezuelan government and affected citizens. China will provide emergency humanitarian assistance and believes that the Venezuelan people will surely overcome the disaster and rebuild their homes as soon as possible.

Mu Jianfeng pointed out that China's position on the issue of Venezuela has been consistent and clear. China always upholds the United Nations Charter and the basic norms of international relations, and opposes any military strikes against Venezuela, excessive unilateral sanctions, or interference in Venezuela's internal affairs. China appreciates the efforts and positive progress made by the Venezuelan government in promoting and protecting human rights. Mu Jianfeng emphasized that the unilateral sanctions imposed on Venezuela by certain countries seriously hinder Venezuela's economic and social development, and severely affect the basic human rights of the Venezuelan people. Such sanctions should be immediately lifted.

On the evening of the 24th, Venezuela experienced two earthquakes of magnitude 7 or above. Jorge Rodríguez, president of the Venezuelan National Assembly, said on the 27th that the earthquake had caused 1,430 deaths.

As of 16:00 on the 27th, according to incomplete statistics, organizations such as the Venezuelan Chinese and Overseas Chinese Federation have organized Venezuelans to donate approximately 500 tons of relief supplies, including mineral water, biscuits, diapers, milk, rice, sugar, fish, etc. Nearly ten hundred Venezuelan families affected by the disaster have received assistance.
