Seven Chinese Citizens Dead in Venezuela Earthquake

According to the Chinese Embassy in Venezuela, as of 5 p.m. local time on June 26, it has been confirmed that 7 Chinese citizens have died in the 'June 24 earthquake'.

From 6 p.m. on June 24 until now, there have been two earthquakes of magnitude 7 or higher in Venezuela, with more than 200 aftershocks, causing casualties and property damage. The Venezuelan government has declared a state of emergency. The Chinese embassy in Venezuela is highly concerned about the safety of Chinese citizens in Venezuela and once again reminds everyone to remain vigilant and take precautions against potential secondary disasters caused by the earthquake.

Regarding strong earthquakes and aftershocks, which can cause serious damage to the main structures of existing buildings, please have the personnel of the relevant institutions and all fellow expatriates carefully inspect whether there are any cracks in the buildings where they live and work. If "X"-shaped or "U"-shaped cross-cracks are found, immediate evacuation is necessary. Pay close attention to local earthquake warning information and disaster prevention warnings, and act according to the guidelines provided. Stay calm, prepare portable emergency supplies, take safety precautions, and ensure that communication is kept open.

In areas affected by disasters, there have been severe casualties. Local water and electricity supplies have been interrupted, telecommunications networks have been damaged, and various sanitation facilities and places have been destroyed to varying degrees. Public health events such as environmental pollution and disease transmission may occur after the disaster. It is recommended that Chinese compatriots, in addition to participating in disaster relief efforts, do not travel to relevant areas unless absolutely necessary. If it is indeed necessary to go there, please be sure to wear protective gear such as masks and gloves. After leaving the affected areas, perform thorough cleaning and care as soon as possible.

At the same time, it is recommended that overseas Chinese merchants in relevant areas be highly vigilant and pay attention to the local security situation to avoid various types of losses. Currently, there are many vehicles in the affected areas, and the road conditions are complex. If you need to travel, please be sure to pay attention to traffic safety.
