According to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on June 25, Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held talks with Austrian Foreign Minister Sepp Melander in Beijing.

Wang Yi stated that over the past 55 years since China and Austria established diplomatic relations, bilateral relations have generally maintained healthy and stable development. The most important experience has been mutual respect and equal treatment, while the most effective approach has been openness and inclusiveness, as well as mutual benefit and win-win results. The friendly strategic partnership between China and Austria strongly demonstrates that countries of different sizes, systems, and civilizations can still become friends and partners. Both sides should adhere to the original intention of establishing diplomatic relations, maintain high-level exchanges, respect each other's core interests, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and strengthen the social and public opinion foundation of bilateral relations. This will enable the tradition of friendship between China and Austria to regain new vitality in the new era.
Wang Yi said that the current international situation is characterized by chaos, and peaceful development is facing serious challenges. President Xi Jinping has proposed the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind and four major global initiatives, offering a Chinese solution that benefits all of humanity. China congratulates Austria on its election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. China is willing to strengthen communication and cooperation with Austria to jointly maintain the authority of the United Nations, defend international law and fairness, support multilateralism and free trade, promote reforms to improve the global governance system, and make new contributions to world peace and development. The correct relationship between China and Europe should be one of partners, not opponents. China's development is an opportunity for Europe, not a challenge. China appreciates Austria's rational and practical policies towards China, and hopes that Austria will continue to play a constructive role in the development of China-Europe relations.
Layzing said that Austria attaches great importance to developing relations with China and continues to implement the one-China policy. He expressed the willingness to take the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries as an opportunity to strengthen strategic dialogue with China, expand cooperation in various fields such as economy, trade, investment, and green development, and continuously deepen the reliable strategic partnership between the two countries. Austrian enterprises are willing to continue investing in the Chinese market and participate in China's modernization process. Facing a turbulent world, Austria looks forward to working closely with China to fulfill its duties as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, strengthen the leading role of the United Nations, and promote cooperation among all nations for world peace and development. Austria is willing to contribute to open dialogues between Europe and China, thereby promoting the stable and healthy development of EU-China relations.
Both sides also exchanged in-depth views on the Ukrainian crisis and the situation in the Middle East.
