Iran Reopens Strait of Hormuz for Merchant Ships with No Fees

Iran's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Ali Bahreini, stated on June 23 that the Strait of Hormuz has been fully open to merchant ships for a period of 60 days, and no fees will be charged during this time.

Bach-Rhani answered reporters from the UN Geneva Association when asked about Iran and US negotiations on the Strait's opening. He said that 60 days later, the specific situation of the Strait opening would be determined by the results of negotiations between Iran and the United States.

Bachar el-Hariri said, according to the memorandum, that the United States should unfreeze Iranian assets and that Iran should have full right to utilize its assets abroad which have been frozen. He stated, “Iran is the sole country with the right to decide how to handle these assets; any other state or entity has no right to interfere.”

Bahreini also refuted the United States’ claim that Iran has agreed to allow international atomic energy agency inspectors to enter Iran once again for inspections. He pointed out that discussions regarding Iran’s nuclear activities will take place at a later stage.

Bahreini said that Iran’s red line is any attack on Lebanon. He warned that if Israel intends to violate the memorandum of understanding in any way, including attacking Lebanon and Hezbollah, then Iran will respond.

Bachreiner said that President Trump’s remarks have caused some difficulties in the Swiss negotiations and posed a very serious risk to the talks. But now everyone should understand that, especially the President of the United States, should realize that they cannot do anything to Iran through military options.
