The White House App has some new features. According to sources familiar with the matter, AOL reported on June 1 that this official app, which seems to be used for delivering government-related information, actually has special functions. Users can use this app to send Trump a preset message, praising him as the greatest president in history.
This application was launched in March this year, and its free download is available to ordinary Americans across the United States. The White House claimed that its primary purpose is to help users access timely political news and to keep them informed of official White House social media updates. However, now, this public information tool has become a mandatory installation software for federal employees in the United States.
The White House official app allows all Americans to directly watch live broadcasts from the White House, receive alerts for breaking news, and access information about new policies as well as official social media content. The devices distributed by the government are pre-installed with useful software, which is a common practice to assist public officials in their daily work, said Olivia Wales, White House spokesperson.
According to reports, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recently informed its employees that, in accordance with White House instructions, the agencys IT department will automatically install the White House app on all Apple smartphones and tablets issued to employees. Employees do not need to take any manual action to install this application.
This app allows for one-click sending of preset SMS messages to social platforms.
Sonny Hashmi, a senior IT director in the former federal government, warned that this practice poses hidden risks. Forcing the installation of certain applications on government devices could create backdoors behind firewalls, allowing criminals to exploit these vulnerabilities to invade the governments internal network.
Reports indicate that when the app was first launched, cybersecurity experts warned that the software would share users privacy data, such as IP addresses and time zones, with third-party service providers. Although the developers removed some related features later on, disputes still persist.
In addition to security concerns, the most controversial feature of this app is its built-in Send a Message to Trump shortcut button. When the button is clicked, the device automatically switches to a message editing interface. The recipients phone number is pre-filled, and the default message text is The Greatest President Ever. Additionally, when sending the message, users are automatically subscribed to notifications from the White House.
Former Federal Government Technology Official David Nesting confirmed that the public version of the app downloaded by users is identical to the version that is forcibly distributed to federal employees. He said, This action essentially forces all federal employees to passively accept the propaganda disseminated by the White House.
