US-Iran Talks Cancelled Amidst Lebanon Conflict

According to Reuters on the 19th, the Swiss Foreign Ministry issued a statement stating that the US-Iran talks originally scheduled for the 19th in Birsfelden, Switzerland, have been cancelled.

Previously, the White House in the United States announced that Vice President Visceri had canceled his originally scheduled trip to Switzerland.

According to Lebanese media reports, due to Israel's ongoing military operations in Lebanon, Iran has delayed sending a delegation to Switzerland.

The US-Iran Understanding Memorandum requires the permanent cessation of hostilities in Lebanon, thereby ensuring the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of Lebanon. However, the Israeli army continues to fight against Hezbollah in Lebanon, and launched a new round of air strikes early on the 18th. Israel did not participate in this US-Iran peace talks and maintains a clear distinction between the agreements reached with the US and Iran.

U.S. President Trump said he expects a complete ceasefire on all fronts. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has consistently emphasized that he has no intention of withdrawing troops from Lebanon, which has led to public criticism of Israel's military actions by Trump and Vance.
