On the 2nd local time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview with American media that he really wanted to talk with SpaceX CEO Elon Musk. However, since the Starlink speed limit incident, Musk has not contacted him yet.
The host asked Zelenskyy, "Who do you think is responsible for the speed limit issues related to Starlink?"
"I think it's impossible for anything to happen without any parties involved," Zelensky said. "In terms of technology, Elon and SpaceX can slow down, stop it, then resume in tactics, yes. Now it’s working properly."
There were reports earlier that the speed limit order was initiated by Musk. Musk himself stated publicly that the Ukrainian army violated the terms of use for Starlink, which led to the implementation of the speed limit. The military version of Starlink, called Star Shield, is controlled by the U.S. government. U.S. President Donald Trump denied any involvement in this matter.
The host asked Zelensky if he believed that the speed limit order was a separate action by Musk. Zelensky replied that he was not familiar with the specific operating rules.
"I am not sure if he can carry out such action on 'Star Shield' as it is military-grade and the government version. I am not sure if he can do so alone in the absence of any US government representation." Zelensky said.
Zelenskyy said, "I really want to discuss various issues with him. We had conversations in the early stages of the conflict. I gave him many positive comments. I am very grateful for 'Starlink'."
Zelensky also stated that he does not believe Musk's stance is "pro-Ukraine".
"After SpaceX's actions, I wanted to talk to him, but they haven't been in touch with us." Zelensky said.
Ukraine previously stated that Starlink had been subject to speed limits, resulting in the interruption of several military missions by Ukrainian forces, and tensions between Ukraine and the United States became acute. Regarding this incident, there are conflicting statements from various parties. Musk’s influence also raises concerns among some American public opinion.
In July this year, media reported that Zelenskyy requested to meet with Musk during his visit to the United States, but the request was denied. In October, Musk also wrote that it was time for Zelenskyy to step down.
