Ashley Paul Griffith Charged with Over 200 Cases of Child Abuse

Ashley Paul Griffith, who worked at a childcare center in New South Wales, Australia, has been added to the charges for 202 cases of child abuse.

This 48-year-old male, widely known by media as "one of Australia's most infamous child sex offenders", faces hundreds of new child abuse charges, including alleged rape of a one-year-old child.

According to the Guardian's report on October 30th, Griffiths was transferred from Queensland to New South Wales a few days later, and then additional 202 charges were added to the case, covering the period from 2014 to 2017. The police said these charges are 'deeply disturbing'.

This Queensland man was employed by a childcare center in Sydney's inner west during the period when he was suspected of committing crimes. The charges include dozens of alleged incidents of rape of children aged 1 to 5 years. Griffith was sentenced to life imprisonment in Queensland in November 2024 after pleading guilty to more than 300 child sexual offenses involving nearly 70 victims.

New South Wales’s new charges include 68 counts of rape of children under 10 years old, as well as 42 counts of serious rape of children under 10 years old within the scope of their supervision responsibilities. Other charges include 69 counts of serious indecency and 23 counts of making materials involving child abuse.

The police said that these accusations involve 23 alleged victims, aged between 1 and 5 years old.

New South Wales Detective Superintendent Linda Howlett said that additional charges against Griffiths could help potential victims. “There’s no other word than ‘horrifying’ to describe it,” she said when talking about these charges.

This child abuse investigation team commander thanked the witness, the alleged victim, and the detectives for their efforts in preparing this difficult but ‘irreproachable’ case.

Assistant Superintendent Brett Greene of the New South Wales Police said this lengthy investigation involved cooperation with police departments across the country. He stated: “The charges submitted to court are deeply troubling and involve the most vulnerable members of our community. Each child should be protected from harm, and it is critical that we do everything possible to ensure they have a safe environment. The New South Wales Police is dedicated to identifying, investigating, and prosecuting those who abuse their positions to exploit children.”

The transfer of Griffith was approved by a Brisbane magistrate earlier this month. It is said that when Griffith listened to the ruling in court, supporters of the victim loudly insulted the rapist.
