Ukraine, Russia Agree Ceasefire in Aleisk for Humanitarian Aid

On October 23, Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces and the First Deputy Minister of Defense, stated that the Russian Armed Forces would impose a ceasefire in the direction of Kherson starting at 4:00 on October 27, Moscow time, in order to carry out humanitarian operations in the Aleisk area of Kherson.

Due to humanitarian operations in the Aleyshki settlement, the Russian armed forces will cease fire and enter a ‘state of silence’ in the direction of Kherson, starting at 4:00 on October 27, 2026, Moscow time, said Gratsimov.

On the morning of the 23rd, the White House in the United States issued a statement announcing that First Lady Melania Trump had facilitated an ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine in Aleisk. The ceasefire will take effect on October 29th. “Both parties agreed to temporarily stop all military activities in Aleisk, so as humanitarian aid can be delivered to the area, and to arrange for civilians to evacuate through designated safe routes.”

"Afterwards, when asked about the duration of humanitarian operations by President Peskov's Press Secretary, he stated that evacuations from Alekseevka may take several days as part of the humanitarian operation. "I would rather not make any predictions, but certainly this will need several days at least."

Additionally, Alahamia, the chairman of the People's Servants Party parliamentary group in Ukraine's Supreme Rada, posted a message on social media on the 23rd, stating that an operation aimed at lifting the blockade in Aleyshki and surrounding areas will begin in the near future. The goal is to establish long-term, fixed humanitarian corridors to ensure the safe evacuation of civilians and the delivery of assistance.
