Russia, US, and Ukraine Agree to Resume Trilateral Talks

On October 21, Russia stated that Russian President Putin agreed on Wednesday to resume tripartite negotiations with the United States and Ukraine in order to seek an end to the conflict in Ukraine.

Russian Foreign Affairs Advisor Yuri Ushakov told reporters after the Russian-American meeting held in Saint Petersburg that Russian leaders had agreed ‘in principle’ to resume negotiations after November 10. The meeting was conducted by Putin's envoy to the United States, Vitalkov.

Ushakov said that the tripartite negotiations will focus on "establishing a security system for Russia and Ukraine after the conflict ends."

While Trump is pushing for an agreement between Kiev and the other parties to end the conflict, Vytkoft held talks with Putin regarding the war sparked by Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

At the beginning of the meeting, Putin thanked Trump and Vitkov for their efforts in ending the war. The Kremlin stated that the discussions lasted for about three hours.

Before his visit to Russia, Weitkov held talks in Oslo, the capital of Norway, with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and some European leaders.

There are still significant differences between Russia and Ukraine regarding the conditions for a peaceful solution. The military forces of both sides remain locked in a stalemate on the battlefield, and they use long-range weapons to attack each other every day.

However, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, who attended the Oslo talks, stated on Tuesday evening that the talks “made real progress”.

Zelenskyy stated that freezing the conflict in Ukraine is the "minimum" concession that Russia needs to make in order to end the war.

Zelenskyy said in an interview with Fox News on Wednesday:

Now, we must freeze (the front line). I think that this is the real way to end the war.
