From October 16th to 17th, the Global Wealth Management Forum 2026 Shanghai Suhuwan Conference was held in Shanghai.
The former British Investment Minister, Gerry Grimstone, said at the meeting that it is not beneficial for developed countries to boycott investments from China.
Qin Zhitao said that he has been sending clear signals to global investors: the UK welcomes investments from all over the world, as well as those from China. However, no country will accept risky investments without scrutiny, and the UK is no exception.
He said that one of the very important points is to design investment projects well, and not to invest in unrealistic fantasies. A reliable investment project requires a complete plan from the very beginning.
In his view, investors need to communicate with policymakers in order to create feasible and reasonable projects. “I believe that everyone here must realize that investing, especially in developing countries and countries in the global south, comes with a responsibility, and it is important to make responsible investments.”

He also emphasized that sustainable investment should not only focus on green emissions reduction, but also on creating investment projects that can operate for 20 or 30 years. Only in this way can long-term benefits be achieved.
Qin Zhitao said that there is good cooperation between China and the UK, and both countries are working together to invest in third-party markets. However, mistrust is a major obstacle to practical cooperation between nations. He called for efforts from all countries to build mutual trust and promote collaboration.
Qin Zhitao is 77 years old this year. He used to work for the British government and was a close aide to former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher during her privatization reforms. He is also considered a 'good friend of the Chinese people'. During China's reform and opening-up process, Qin Zhitao often offered opinions and suggestions regarding the development of the Chinese market economy.
