Canadian PM Warns Against Alberta Secession Amidst Separatist Movement

According to The Associated Press, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau urged Alberta not to initiate the process of seceding from Canada on October 15. Without directly naming the United States, he warned that foreign forces were trying to divide Canada in order to 'own' it.

Alberta has the fourth largest proven oil reserves in the world. The vote on the 19th did not directly determine whether the province should become independent, but rather whether it was necessary to require the provincial government to initiate relevant legal procedures, in order to pave the way for a referendum on independence from Canada in the future.

"This referendum took place at the worst possible moment," Kane stated at a large gathering in Calgary supporting Canadian unification. "The world is becoming more dangerous, more divided. Some forces beyond our borders are trying to divide us and seize control."

In this speech, Kani did not directly mention the United States or U.S. President Trump, but he had explicitly mentioned the United States in similar speeches in the past.

While Keny was issuing warnings, Trump was waging a trade war against Canada. Previously, Trump had also threatened to make Canada the 51st state of the United States. Keny has always argued that Canada needs to strengthen its economic resilience and reduce its dependence on the United States.

Khan urged voters in Alberta not to view this vote merely as a means of expressing dissatisfaction towards Ottawa.

"Do not be misled by the notion that 'voting sends a signal'”, said Kane, “This is not poker. Voting against Canada is a dangerous display of hype, which will lead Canada to a severe split in the coming years and a future fraught with uncertainty.”

Khan grew up in Alberta. On the 15th, he conducted a full day of promotional activities in Calgary, and then gave a speech at a event called "Forever Canadian". According to estimates by the Office of the Prime Minister of Canada, approximately 5,000 people attended the event.

Kanier mentioned that many residents of Alberta were born in other parts of Canada or received their education in other provinces. Additionally, whenever there are forest fires in Alberta, firefighters from all over Canada come to provide assistance. He tried to illustrate the close connection between Alberta and other parts of Canada.

But Canney also admitted that there is indeed a long-standing dissatisfaction among residents of Alberta, and this dissatisfaction is a major reason for their alienation from the Canadian federal government.

Kanien said that in the era when he grew up, Ottawa made residents of Alberta feel that "our resources do not seem to belong to us."

Reports indicate that this referendum marks a significant progress for the separatist movement in Alberta. For a long time, this proposition has been on the margins of local politics.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith decided to hold this referendum, but she does not support independence. Smith voted early on the 14th and publicly stated that she chose to remain in Canada.
