According to the WeChat public account of the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, on October 16, the Chinese Embassy in Thailand reminded Chinese citizens traveling to Thailand to enhance their awareness of safety precautions.
Recently, there have been several cases in Thailand where Chinese citizens have gone missing after entering the country, been illegally detained, and induced to be transferred to the Thai-Myanmar border. Some criminals use pretexts such as high salaries, business inspections, investment cooperation, or project invitations to trick Chinese citizens into going to Thailand and engage in criminal activities, posing a serious threat to the personal safety and property of Chinese citizens. There have also been several scams involving false invitations to participate in live broadcasts or performing activities for domestic professionals. The Chinese Embassy in Thailand reminds all Chinese citizens traveling to Thailand to raise their awareness of safety precautions, be careful of being deceived, and take practical measures to protect their own safety.
1. Be vigilant against high-paying job advertisements and beware of recruitment scams. Exercise extreme caution when dealing with high-paying job opportunities offered through online platforms, social media, or introduced by others. Pay special attention to jobs that offer salaries significantly higher than the industry standard, have unclear job descriptions, overly relaxed recruitment requirements, or promise package deals such as airfare, accommodation, and no need for relevant work experience. Carefully verify the qualifications of the recruiting organization, the location of the job, the job responsibilities, and the terms of the contract. Do not easily believe claims of “easy money” or “high-paying employment.” Be cautious when requested to report to unknown locations, as this could lead to scams, illegal detention, or human trafficking.
II. Be vigilant against the temptation of high returns and profits. Do not take chances. Maintain a rational approach to so-called high-return investment projects, high-profit business partnerships, and other “risk-free” opportunities. Fully verify the authenticity of the projects, the qualifications of the partners, and the financial transactions involved. Do not easily trust rumors or introductions from strangers or acquaintances regarding “internal channels” or “special opportunities.” Do not ignore potential risks due to the desire for high salaries or returns, or the belief that “nothing will go wrong.” Strengthen your bottom-line thinking, resolutely discard greed and luck, and avoid getting into dangerous situations by trusting others too blindly.
III. Be vigilant when traveling and carefully choose vehicles arranged by others. During your stay in Thailand, plan your itinerary in advance, choose legitimate transportation and legal services. Be cautious about accepting free rides from strangers or even acquaintances, as well as temporary changes to the vehicle or invitations to places you don’t know. If there are any unusual situations, such as sudden changes in destination or refusal to disclose your itinerary, be vigilant and promptly refuse such requests and inform trusted relatives or friends. Do not easily give important items such as passports, mobile phones, or bank cards to others for safekeeping.
IV. Be cautious when traveling to areas along the Thai-Myanmar border, where safety risks are higher. Fully understand the safety conditions in the destination, and carefully assess the necessity of traveling to such areas. Do not travel to regions with high safety risks unless it is absolutely necessary. Firmly refuse any requests to travel to border areas under the pretext of tourism, research, job hunting, or investment, or to make temporary changes to itineraries or use irregular ports of entry. If you notice that your personal freedom is restricted, are asked to go to unknown locations, or other suspicious situations occur, seek help from local police immediately and contact the Chinese embassy or consulate in Thailand.
5. Keep communication channels open and inform family or trusted friends about your itinerary in a timely manner. Before arriving in Thailand, inform your family or trusted friends about your flight, accommodation, itinerary, and companions. Keep copies of your passport, flight tickets, hotel reservations, etc. Keep your mobile phone connected during your stay in Thailand to avoid being unreachable for long periods. If you need to change your itinerary temporarily, inform your family and friends immediately. If you suspect that a relative or friend may be missing, report the situation to the local Thai police as soon as possible. Provide them with information such as identity details, immigration records, last contact time, last location, and any relevant clues. Also, contact the Chinese embassy or consulate in Thailand for assistance.
The Chinese Embassy in Thailand once again reminds all Chinese citizens to fully understand the safety situation and relevant laws and regulations in the destination before leaving the country. They should carefully assess various risks and not easily believe the promises of high salaries and high returns. Chinese citizens should not participate in activities with unclear origins or situations. It is essential to enhance awareness of risk prevention and self-protection capabilities. In case of an emergency, please seek help from the Thai police immediately and contact the Chinese embassies and consulates in Thailand.
