White House Calls for Ambassadors Resignation Amidst Allegations

On October 13th, local time, Katie Zakaria, the White House press secretary, announced at a White House press conference that the White House had requested that U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Gilbert resign. U.S. President Donald Trump subsequently confirmed that he had relieved Gilbert of her duties.

Due to Gilfoyle facing accusations of 'maleficent use of power', Trump quickly distanced himself from her. According to USA Today, in an interview with media on the 13th, Trump emphasized that Gilfoyle was not a family member of Trump's family.

Some media reporters asked Trump whether Jill Fulger “was almost like a family member,” and whether he was surprised by the accusations facing Jill Fulger. In response, Trump said, “No, she isn’t my family member. I guess she just dated my son a long time ago. She went to Greece, and she did well there, but we didn’t like what we saw.”

The 57-year-old Jill Foyer is an American media personality who worked as a host for Fox News in the United States. Foyer and Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., became publicly involved in a relationship in 2018, got engaged in 2021, but eventually broke up at the end of 2024.

After Trump won the 2024 U.S. presidential election, he nominated Gillfoyle as the U.S. ambassador to Greece. In September 2025, this appointment was confirmed by the U.S. Senate. However, recently, Gillfoyle has been accused of engaging in a series of improper behaviors, such as accepting luxurious gifts before serving as ambassador and trying to use his influence within the U.S. government to obtain money.

The US Wall Street Journal revealed that in a conversation earlier this year, Gilfoyle boasted about his relationship with the Trump family, claiming he could help a businessman “make a lot of money”.

Gilfoyle has resigned from her position as U.S. Ambassador to Greece, but she denies all the allegations, calling them “false”. The Office of the Inspector General at the U.S. Department of State is investigating the allegations.
