Trump Claims Russia, Ukraine Agreed to Cease Attacks on Energy Facilities

They agreed. Do you know why? Because I said they agreed.

According to reports by Reuters and The Associated Press on October 12, U.S. President Donald Trump insisted again during an interview at the White House that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to cease attacking each other's energy facilities. In response to reporters' questions about neither side having confirmed an agreement, Trump gave the above statement.

The live video was broadcast by C-SPAN, a U.S. public affairs television network, and was shared on social platform X by the American political commentary account Acyn, attracting attention.

Trump Claims Russia, Ukraine Agreed to Cease Attacks on Energy Facilities

The day before, Trump announced on his social platform Truth Social that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to immediately implement an “energy cease-fire” and stop attacking each other’s energy infrastructure.

Trump wrote in the post: "This is effective immediately. A power suspension will be imposed on the war between Russia and Ukraine. Both parties have agreed. Do not violate the agreement!"

However, this information has not been officially confirmed by both Russia and Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said that Trump's announcement of a ceasefire was also surprising for him. Ukraine supports the cessation of attacks on energy facilities, but is still awaiting specific details from the US side.

The Russian side also did not confirm that an agreement has been reached. Peskov, a spokesman for the Kremlin, said on the 12th that Russia and the United States are still in contact regarding possible energy ceasefires, but did not directly answer whether Russia has agreed to the ceasefire.

What further raises doubts is that after Trump announced a ceasefire, attacks on energy facilities between Russia and Ukraine have not stopped.

Zelenskyy said on the 12th that Russian troops attacked six energy facilities in Ukraine that day, including a power plant in the Kharkov region. He stated that Ukraine is willing to stop attacking Russian energy facilities, but the ceasefire must be respected by both sides.

Trump stated that he needed further information about the situation and said both sides had violated ceasefire agreements.

It is worth noting that Trump has also recently been in dispute with Zelenskyy over the continuous attacks by Ukraine on Russian oil refining facilities.

Against the backdrop of rising global diesel prices, the Trump administration recently announced a relaxation of some restrictions on Russian diesel exports, allowing Russian diesel to enter the US market. This decision has sparked controversy in the United States.

Zelenskyy believes that the current rise in diesel prices is mainly due to the disruption in shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, rather than an attack by Ukraine on Russian refining facilities.

As of now, neither Russia nor Ukraine has publicly announced the specific terms or implementation mechanisms of the energy ceasefire agreement. The claim by Trump that “both sides have agreed” still lacks formal confirmation from both Russia and Ukraine.
