China Responds to US Opposition on Sanctions Against Belize and Paraguay

On October 13, Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning presided over a regular press conference. A Reuters reporter asked that the United States Department of State recently stated its opposition to China threatening and intimidating countries that exercise their sovereign rights. The report indicated that this stance was in response to China’s sanctions against officials from Belize and Paraguay. What is China's response to this?

Mao Ning said that the one-China principle is a fundamental norm of international relations and a common consensus among the international community. It also serves as the political foundation for Sino-US relations. The US should strictly adhere to the one-China principle and the provisions of the three joint communiques between China and the US. It should handle the Taiwan issue with caution and stop sending wrong signals to the separatist forces advocating for Taiwan independence.

On the previous day, a Reuters reporter asked whether it was the first time that China had taken similar measures against ministers from Paraguay and Belize.

Mao Ning stated that regarding those who stubbornly support the 'Taiwan independence' separatist forces, China will take all necessary disciplinary measures to firmly protect national sovereignty and territorial integrity. We also advise Taiwan's authorities to avoid being repeatedly manipulated and exploited by the 'Taiwan independence' separatist forces. Linking oneself with the 'Taiwan independence' forces brings no future; it only leads to missing development opportunities and isolation from the international community.
