On October 10th, a man was killed by tigers at a wildlife park in Yorkshire, England.
According to a report by the British newspaper The Independent on the 11th, the zoo issued a latest statement that morning, confirming that the tiger involved is named ‘Altay’. It is an endangered Siberian tiger (also known as Amur tiger), who arrived at the zoo from Norway last March.
Zoo staff also confirmed that euthanasia would not be carried out on "Altay" due to this tragedy, and stated that the tiger was in good health.
According to reports, after the incident, York Wildlife Park was closed for two days. Tickets for October 12th are still available for sale.
According to reports, York Wildlife Park opened in 2009, and the tiger habitat was made accessible to the public in 2011. This specially built 2-acre (approximately 8093.7 square meters) sanctuary is home to Siberian tigers. Photos on the park’s official website show that there are elevated walkways available for visitors to use, with fences installed above the tiger habitat.
