The Pentagon recently announced that it will broadcast live the execution of Nidal Hassan, the perpetrator of the shooting incident at Fort Hood Base.
According to AFP, European Commission spokesman Thomas Reinecke warned major digital platforms on the 12th not to conduct live broadcasts.
Rénier said that according to EU regulations, platforms must 'strictly enforce their own service terms and conditions'.
He told reporters: 'Some platforms have clear regulations in place. Meta explicitly prohibits live broadcasts of executions; both X and TikTok prohibit the dissemination of content that is thrilling or glorifies violence. We will not comment on the practices of these platforms within the United States, but in Europe, the relevant entities have clear legal obligations.'
He added that if platforms fail to implement their service terms, the EU will exercise its relevant powers under the Digital Services Act. “Therefore, we will ensure that these companies and online platforms comply with these obligations within Europe.”

On November 5, 2009, Nidal Hassan, a psychological doctor with the U.S. Army at the time, opened fire at Fort Hood military base where he served, resulting in the death of 13 people and injuries to more than 30 others. This incident became one of the most serious shooting incidents in the history of U.S. military bases. Hassan later stated that he acted in opposition to the “unjust wars” carried out by the United States in Afghanistan and Iraq. In August 2013, Nidal Hassan was sentenced to death.
U.S. Defense Secretary Hagel previously stated that the execution will take place at Fort Hood in Texas on December 3 at 1:13 PM.
