Trump Reacts to Nobel Peace Prize Awarded to Navi Pillay

On October 9th local time, the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced that this year's Nobel Peace Prize will be awarded to South African judge and human rights lawyer Navanethem "Navi" Pillay, in recognition of her efforts over the years to promote peace and international law.

This means that U.S. President Trump has once again lost his dream of winning the Peace Prize.

According to Bloomberg, on that day, Trump lost his temper at a rally in New York State, shouting for two minutes.

As your president, representing the United States of America, I was supposed to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, but not," Trump reaffirmed his dissatisfaction with failing to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, also calling it a "disgraceful and embarrassing" decision, leaving Norway with "stain".

He also claimed that he did not win the prize, “which is just another indication that Norway and all other countries are exploiting our country”; this means that the Peace Prize “has been forever tarnished by a small group of anti-democratic radicals who truly stand against civilization.”

We won't forget Norway. He added.

Trump is still not satisfied. Later, he posted a long message on social media, using nearly 600 words to accuse the Nobel Peace Prize of being “the enemy of civilization”.

According to reports, Pike is an ad hoc judge at the Hague International Court of Justice. Last year, she served as the chairperson of a United Nations committee that investigated Israel’s war in Gaza. The committee concluded that the Israeli government, led by Netanyahu, committed genocide against Palestinians. The Israeli government strongly condemns this decision.

At the rally on the 9th, Trump described Praye as “a liberal working for the United Nations, but no one has ever heard of her”. “I know many people, but I’ve never heard of this person. Still, I want to congratulate her.”

It is worth mentioning that hours after Pell received the Nobel Prize, the Trump administration announced new sanctions against the International Criminal Court (ICC). The White House has long accused the ICC of unfairly targeting the United States and Israel.

The latest sanctions will impose economic penalties on any entities that engage in business dealings with the ICC. American allies, including the UK, Germany, France, Canada, and Japan, have warned that this move will have a “significant impact” on the ICC, its staff, and their families.

Bloomberg mentioned that it is still unclear whether these sanctions are in response to the announcement of the Nobel Prize.

Last year, Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado received the Peace Prize. Shortly after, she presented the medal to Trump. This led the committee to issue a statement stating that the award is non-reversible, non-shared, and non-transferable.
