Chinese Tourist Traffic Safety in Egypt

On October 6, the WeChat public account “Chinese Embassy in Egypt” reported that during the National Day holiday, several traffic accidents involving Chinese tourists occurred in Egypt. On October 1, a China-Pakistan vehicle and a tourist bus had a collision on the road between Aswan and Abu Simbel, resulting in 9 Chinese tourists being injured. On the 4th, a car overturned on a desert road near Luxor, Egypt, with 2 Chinese tourists who drove the car being injured. On the 5th, a car broke down and lost control while returning from Abu Simbel to Aswan, causing 2 Chinese tour groups being injured.

Egypt has fewer traffic lights, and local drivers' awareness of traffic safety needs to be improved. The driving speeds are generally fast, and mixed traffic of pedestrians and vehicles is common, leading to frequent traffic accidents. The Chinese Embassy in Egypt once again reminds Chinese tourists in Egypt to enhance their awareness of prevention and pay attention to traffic safety.

It is not recommended to travel by car or go on trips alone. The local road conditions are complex and variable, often inconsistent with maps and navigation systems. When traveling by charter vehicle, choose a qualified professional company, sign a contract, purchase vehicle insurance, and always remind the driver to drive safely. Do not ride in overloaded buses or non-passenger vehicles, and ensure that all passengers wear seat belts throughout the journey.

When taking local tourist buses, public minibuses, taxis, or online car-hailing services, choose reputable travel agencies or platforms to ensure you are driving a legitimate vehicle. Do not opt for cheap "black cars" or carpooling arrangements, as it will be difficult to protect your rights through legal channels in case of disputes or accidents.

3. If you must drive yourself, be extra vigilant. Check the condition of your vehicle and plan your route carefully. Try to avoid driving at night or on long distances. Strictly follow traffic rules. Control your speed and direction carefully during driving. Do not drive while tired or exceed the allowed speed limit.

The Aswan to Abu Simbel road is a section with frequent accidents. Since the beginning of this year, there have been several traffic accidents involving Chinese tourists, resulting in at least 1 death and 17 injuries. Please remain extremely vigilant while traveling along this route.

5. Purchase overseas travel insurance in advance. Medical facilities in most parts of Egypt are limited, private hospitals have high costs, and vehicles generally lack commercial insurance. Applying for compensation can be difficult, time-consuming, and involves small amounts of money. It is recommended to purchase suitable overseas travel accident insurance in China in advance. Pay attention to the scope and requirements of the insurance coverage, and contact the insurance company promptly after an accident to obtain assistance and compensation.

In case of a traffic accident, please stay calm and call the local police or emergency number for help as soon as possible, while ensuring your own safety.
