On the afternoon of October 7th, Beijing time, the 2026 Nobel Prize in Chemistry was announced. French scientist Henri Kagan and Japanese scientist Kenso Soai were awarded the prize for their "discovery of nonlinear effects and self-catalytic phenomena in asymmetric organic synthesis."
The winners will split the prize money of 12 million Swedish kronor (approximately 8.02 million RMB).
According to the introduction, Kagan was born in France in 1930. She received her doctorate from the École Normale Supérieure in France in 1960 and has been a retired professor at the University of Paris Sud.
Chi Heixian, born in Hiroshima, Japan in 1950. He received his doctorate from the University of Tokyo in 1979 and is an honorary professor at the University of Science and Technology Tokyo in Japan.
