Azerbaijans President Claims China and US as World Superpowers

Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev stated on October 2 that in today's world, there are only two superpowers, China and the United States, and "no third party." He also emphasized that Azerbaijan has established strategic partnerships with both China and the United States, and views this as a manifestation of international community's trust in Azerbaijan.

According to the official website of the Azerbaijani President's Office, Aliev delivered a speech at the eighth congress of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party on that day. Speaking about Azerbaijan's diplomatic strategy in recent years, he stated that Azerbaijan has established strategic partnerships with several EU member states, and currently has relevant cooperation mechanisms with 10 EU countries. At the same time, "two historic events" have taken place recently: Azerbaijan has established strategic partnerships with China and the United States.

Aliyev said that Azerbaijan has signed a comprehensive strategic partnership declaration with China, and a strategic partnership charter with the United States. He then made it clear: "These two countries are the two superpowers in the world; there is no third party."

He further pointed out that there are certainly issues that need to be discussed between China and the United States. There is also competition between the two countries. However, whether China and the United States can establish a set of rules that both parties recognize on the basis of mutual understanding is “a crucial factor for the entire world.”

Aliev also emphasized that Azerbaijan is a strategic partner of these "two superpowers". He stated that despite having a small population and limited territory, Azerbaijan has managed to establish strategic partnerships with both the United States and China. This reflects external confidence in Azerbaijan, as well as recognition of its commitments and credibility.

"The whole world has no one who doesn't know that what we say and sign holds the same weight. Whatever we say, we will stick to it." said Aliev. He further claimed that Azerbaijan has never played a double game with any country and would not take dishonest or deceptive actions.
