On October 6th, local time, U.S. President Donald Trump posted a video address on social media lasting over 2 minutes, in which he reiterated his "Send Money" plan: if the Republican Party wins the U.S. midterm elections, he would give all adult citizens in the United States $5,000. Trump said, "Our country is doing well under the leadership of the Republicans, so only I can make this promise to you."
Trump believes that the Republican Party has “obtained a significant amount of money through tariffs and record economic success”. He said that the plan would cost about $1 trillion, but in the past 15 months, “our investments in our country have reached a record $21 trillion”, so giving each person $5,000 “is actually a very easy task”.
In the end of his speech, Trump also said, "Democrats will never be able to do this, because they have never brought any benefits, and they will never bring any benefits," and stated that he "looks forward to signing these checks."
"If the Republicans win, everyone will have $5,000 in their pockets, and our country's economy will achieve unprecedented success. But the Democrats' policies won't allow this to happen. On the contrary, they will raise your taxes and destroy our country, as well as our economy. If they win the election, it will be a disaster comparable to the economic depression of 1929."
This “5,000-dollar” promise was first announced during the Republican Party’s mid-term elections in September. Trump said that if Republicans managed to gain a majority of seats in both the Senate and the House of Representatives during the mid-term elections, he would give each American adult 5,000 dollars, and this money would be called the “Trump Dividend”.
However, it is expected that this proposal will encounter resistance in Congress and pose a risk of causing inflation. The population of the United States aged 18 and above is approximately 270 million, with most of them being citizens. The Wall Street Journal previously reported that the total cost of distributing $5,000 to each of these individuals is likely to exceed $1 trillion.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration has begun distributing $500 checks to nearly 1 million people, claiming that these funds will be given to those who paid “excessive costs” under the Affordable Care Act. Trump recently advocated for distributing a $1776 “Warrior Bonus” check to each active military member, a figure derived from the year 1776 when North American colonies declared their independence from British rule. The amount of the bonus is just one dollar more than the original amount, but Trump described this as an anecdote that could prove his “high IQ among the world’s top”.
