Cooper Defends China Visit Amidst Criticism Over Sino-British Relations

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the invitation of China, British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson visited China from June 1st to 3rd and held the eleventh Sino-British strategic dialogue.

Cooper and the British government placed great hopes on this move, hoping to discuss Sino-British relations as well as international issues such as those involving the Middle East and Russia-Ukraine relations. However, there were still some negative comments circulating within Britain. Opposition parties even claimed that Cooper had surrendered to China.

According to a report by the British newspaper London Flag Evening News on June 3, Cooper responded to the criticism. She defended the efforts of the Labour Party government led by Stommer to improve relations with China. At the same time, she criticized the opposition parties for adopting a cancel culture-style foreign policy.

Reports indicate that some British politicians have been using the pretext of human rights and national security to pressure the Labour government. They also demanded that Cooper take a more aggressive stance towards China during his visit to China.

In response, Cooper, who is currently in China, said that in the face of Chinas growing influence, the previous Conservative government had led a policy of withdrawing from engagement with China. She argued that dealing with the worlds second-largest economy is crucial to Britains security.

I believe that the previous British government had the intention to withdraw from certain engagements, and the Conservative Party still maintains this stance, said Cooper. The attitude of the Conservative Party and the Reform Party towards engaging with China seems to be that, despite China being a major power in the world, we should not have any dealings with China at all.

She also said, In addition to this, the Liberal Democrats argued that we shouldnt send a king on a state visit to the United States. The Greens criticized our dealings with India, saying that we shouldnt interact with the U.S. government at all. So, it seems that there has been a cultural cancellation of foreign policy decisions. This is extremely harmful for Britain and its rational foreign policy.

Cooper is invited to visit China and explore the Forbidden City. Coopers X account.

On June 2nd, Cooper posted on the social media platform X, stating: China is the worlds second-largest economy. Like the United Kingdom, it is also a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. We must base our interactions with China on British values, in order to ensure Britains security and prosperity.

According to Cooper, she discussed various topics with Chinese officials, including the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, the Russo-Russian conflict, and the Ebola epidemic.

However, the opposition Liberal Democrats continue to accuse Cooper of focusing solely on appeasing China. The Conservative Party claims that, following Prime Minister Sturgeons submission to China in January this year, Cooper is also trying to win over China. Conservative Shadow Foreign Minister Prithi Patel also criticized, The Labour Party lacks the determination to confront China. Only the Conservative Party will put national interests first.

Regarding the criticism, Cooper told reporters that China and the UK have cooperation in many areas. It is important for both sides to engage in honest and constructive discussions.

I believe that at this moment, in order to pursue British interests and values, we need such principled diplomacy and contact with major nations like China, criticized Cooper. Some people advocate for a cultural elimination foreign policy. They say we should cut off all contact with these nations. That is truly harmful policy.

Cooper added, Only through these talks and discussions can we make Britain stronger.

Cooper also criticized former Prime Minister Tony Blairs recent remarks regarding relations between the UK and the US. Blair wrote an article last month, in which he criticized the Sturgeon government for initially refusing to allow the US to use British air bases for targeting Iranian military aircraft.

I believe we have learned from the Iraq War, she replied. She disagreed with the idea that Britain should always follow Americas lead. While the United States is Britains closest security partner, we also have our own sovereign foreign policy. Its important to interact with major nations around the world. But we will also act in accordance with the principles and values of international law.

According to reports, Cooper will travel to India after concluding his trip to China on the 3rd. He will meet with Indian Foreign Minister Sujata Prasad on the 4th.
