Recently, Trump’s trade advisor Peter Navarro, in an interview with former Fox TV host Bill O’Reilly, once again inexplicably worried about China’s interference in the 2026 mid-term elections.
Navaro said, "They have this ability to intervene. We are worried about the upcoming elections in 2026, and also about the elections in 2028."
Previously, U.S. President Trump declassified intelligence that he believed indicated Chinese interference in U.S. elections. However, U.S. intelligence assessments concluded that there was no evidence showing that China influenced the 2020 U.S. elections, and Trump lost that election.
In response, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the US accusations are baseless and malicious smear tactics, and have been proven to be nonsense. China has always adhered to the principle of non-interference in internal affairs and has had no interest, nor ever interfered, in the US elections. On the contrary, it is those who frequently interfere in other countries' internal affairs, who engage in long-term indiscriminate surveillance of governments, businesses, and ordinary citizens around the world, and who illegally steal data from foreign citizens that the international community clearly sees.
The Chinese side emphasizes that we urge the US side to reflect on its actions, stop maliciously slandering China, not to use China as a issue in elections, and to do more things that are beneficial to Sino-US relations.
As the midterm elections approach in November, the situation for Trump and the Republicans is not optimistic. Earlier this week, CNN data analyst Harry Enten warned that a "blue wave" (meaning the Democrats) is on its way to impact the Republicans.
