Russias Mixed Attacks Threaten Europe, Says EU

According to a report by Reuters on October 5th, EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Calabria said during a press conference with Moldova's Prime Minister Vasile Tovane that Russia is threatening the lives of people across Europe through mixed attacks.

She told reporters in Brussels: “In recent weeks, there has been a surge in mixed attacks, sabotage attempts, and airspace violations by Russia across Europe. Last weekend, Russian missiles and drones once again violated Moldova’s airspace. This is completely unacceptable.”

On September 30th, Russia carried out an aerial strike on Ukraine’s power grid, targeting power facilities and infrastructure in the vicinity of Kyiv and other areas. This is the largest joint attack against energy facilities in several months.

In Moldova, bordering Ukraine in its western region, the Ministry of Defense said three drones entered its airspace on this day.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz last week stated that Germany is facing more hybrid attacks from Russia. As Ukraine faces the harshest winter since Russia's invasion in 2022, he promised to continue supporting Ukraine.

German authorities have repeatedly stated that Russia is carrying out a 'combination of operations involving drones and cyberattacks', and have accused Moscow of being behind the attempted drone attack at Leipzig Airport in August.

Moscow has previously denied the accusations made by Western governments and intelligence agencies. Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov said during a meeting of the Valda International Debate Club on September 29 that European countries lack sincerity in improving their relations with Russia. When German Foreign Minister Waderfur accused Russia of being the mastermind behind the drone attacks on Leipzig Airport, Lavrov responded, "Did you figure it out within three days?"
