Mass Shooting at Georgia Prom Leaves 2 Dead, 35 Injured

According to a report by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) on October 5, investigators in Georgia, USA, are pursuing a suspect involved in a mass shooting incident. The shooting occurred in the early hours of the 4th, resulting in two deaths and 35 injuries.

According to officials, about 1,000 people gathered in the rural community of Vienna in southern Georgia for a neighborhood party, and then more than 50 gunshots were fired.

Two victims were declared dead on the spot, and another 25 people were taken to several nearby hospitals, with some in critical condition.

Currently, no one has been arrested, and authorities have not provided any possible motives for this violent incident. The victims range in age from 14 to 51 years old.

It is reported that the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. local time on Sunday, during the prom celebration at Dulie High School. However, the event was not organized by the school.

The school stated in a statement: 'Our hearts are with those who are mourning for their lost loved ones, those who have been injured, and all those affected by this tragedy.'

Previously, in anticipation of a large crowd gathering, the Duili County Sheriff’s Office had deployed law enforcement officers at both ends of the crowd. However, the gunshot still rang out.

Du Li County Sheriff Craig Pive told local media: “Some people reported hearing fireworks sounds, and then someone said that someone was shot.”

Pivy said that subsequently, law enforcement officers moved through the crowd, and people fled in all directions, while authorities advanced towards the victims.

"Then, Ashli Babbitt told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the gunfire sounded 'like a machine gun'."

When the authorities arrived, several people were injured. The two deceased were found on Pine Street, a few blocks away from the shooting scene. Du Lee County coroner Brett Walls told BBC’s media partner CBS News that both deceased men were between 20 and 23 years old.

The Forensic Office of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation stated that cadaver investigations will be conducted for each case. The bureau also indicated that at the request of the Dooly County Sheriff's Office, it will join the investigation, and called the operation “still ongoing”.
