According to Bloomberg, Australian Treasurer Jim Chalmers said on April 4 local time that the war between the United States and Iran is an economic disaster, and warned that this conflict has caused inflation and higher borrowing costs worldwide.
In an interview with media, Charmes said, "Whatever the reasons for getting involved at the beginning, from an economic perspective, wars in the Middle East have always been a disaster."
Chambers said, “From the perspective of living costs, it is a disaster for Australians, and even for people around the world. Wars in the Middle East are causing significant upward pressure on inflation. This is why we see interest rates rising around the world.”
When asked whether U.S. President Trump should end the war now, Charmes said he didn’t want to give advice to the U.S. President, but ending the war “the sooner the better.”
He stated: "The longer this issue drags on, the greater the impact on global and Australian economies."
